How Recycled PET Bottles Become Eco-Friendly Bag Linings
Can a water bottle become part of your favorite leather bag?
Absolutely. Welcome to the future of sustainable fashion with Rise of Rosa, where style and sustainability go hand-in-hand.
We all know that plastic waste is one of the most urgent environmental problems of our time. Every minute, as many as 5 million plastic bottles are bought worldwide, and around 60 million end up in landfill every day. So how do we turn this waste into something useful and beautiful? Curious about how this happens? Let's take a look.
What is PET and RPET?
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is a type of plastic widely used in beverage bottles and food packaging. Its biggest advantage? It’s 100% recyclable.
RPET, stands for Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate, made entirely from recycled PET materials. By reusing discarded plastic bottles in new products, RPET offers a sustainable, energy-efficient alternative to the production of new plastic.
At Rise of Rosa, we take sustainability one step further. Through our partnership with Waste2Wear, the lining of each bag is made of RPET, turning waste into purpose.
How Does RPET Fabric Production Work?
Step 1: Collecting the Bottles
It all starts by collecting used PET bottles. Once collected, the bottles are thoroughly cleaned to prepare them for recycling.
Step 2: Shredding into Flakes
Next, the bottles are shredded into tiny plastic pieces called PET flakes. Through careful sieving, sorting, and washing, the flakes are purified for the next stage.
Step 3: Melting and Spinning Fibers
Through a heated process, PET flakes are melted and spun into fine, durable fibers. Specialized equipment heats the flakes to create thin fiber strands that form the basis of the final fabric.
Step 4: Weaving the Fabric
Finally, these fibers are woven into high-quality lining material. This durable and versatile fabric is the lining of our leather bags and combines style with sustainability.
From Bottle to Lining
At Rise of Rosa, sustainability is a core element of our design philosophy. Through our collaboration with Waste2Wear, billions of plastic bottles are given a new life as lining for our leather bags. This transformation keeps waste out of oceans.
Did you know Waste2Wear’s RPET production has earned the Corporate LiveWire Global Award for Most Sustainable Textile Production Company of the Year? Their innovative work is changing the way fashion approaches sustainability.
And there's more! Every bag we make comes with a scannable QR code, so you can trace its production process. Follow every step, from the collection of PET bottles to the final product, and see how you're making a difference in the world!
Why Choose Bags with Recycled PET Linings?
1. Reduces Plastic Waste
Every bag lining made from recycled PET reuses several discarded bottles, keeping waste out of landfills and oceans. Think about the impact your purchase can have on creating a cleaner, healthier planet.
2. Energy-Efficient Production
Producing RPET requires 59% less energy than virgin polyester. So, when you choose products made with RPET, you're helping to make things more energy-efficient and reducing your impact on the environment.
3. Durable and Long-Lasting
PET fibers are the perfect choice for everyday essentials like bag linings! Not only are they super strong and durable, but they'll also look great and last for years to come.
4. Ethical and Stylish
We all love a gorgeous new bag, but wouldn't it be great if it was stylish, sustainable and kind to the planet too? Well, it can be! Choosing bags with RPET linings is a wonderful way to show the world what you stand for.
